1929 : Spinning, whirling, Still descending...

We ventured up to Oro-Medonte for some cross country skiing at Horseshoe Valley. It was perfect day for it. Bright and sunny, not too cold and lots of snow. I didn't wear glove. Although I probably should have. I fell three times. Twice going iuphill. How do you fall going uphill? I found a way... I was trying to do the 'http://www.ehow.com/how_14598_herringbone-telemark-skis.html' Herringbone technique but ski would slip and straighten then I'd fall backwards and blammo. I'm not sure how else you'd get up a steep hill on skis? Other than that it was pretty enjoyable. My sister and JP joined us for the day. They were good company. We haven't seen them for awhile. After skiing we drove to Orillia for Chinese. (Since everyone was far too tired to cook... JP & B. also did an additional 7k) The restaurant was called 'http://www.yellowpages.caus/Ontario/Orillia/Gung-Ho-Chinese-Canadian-Restaurant/3638727.html' Gung Ho and it isn't 1929...

1928 : Long night

It was a long work day yesterday getting home after midnight. I was part of a work event we hosted, so I was running around most of the night. It was a good event for the community. My employer allowed us to come in 1 1/2 hours later today, which was nice. After the event I was driving home and got pulled over by a cop for speeding. (On a dark empty street... I love how they point out it is a school zone at 11PM at night...:P) He gave me a bit of a lecture and rhymed off all the offenses on my car -eyeroll- but was decent about it and let me off with a warning. I'm pretty bagged today... Zzz... looking forward to some couch time. 1928...

1927 : The heat is on

Ahhhh... the infuriating lemon fireplace we discovered when we bought our house has finally been rectified. Today we had a gas fireplace installed. It is pretty awesome. It make the great room a super cozy warm great room. I love the dancing flame, for a gas fireplace this one is pretty impressive and no mess of wood. Hmm. Joy. I look forward to hours of enjoyment from it. I'll add a photo tomorrow or Friday - camera batteries are in the charger. 1927...

1926 : Weekend of highs and lows

The weekend. Saturday we drove up to 'http://www.mansfieldski.com/'Mansfield to go Cross Country Skiing. Yes I went skiing again. It was significantly more enjoyable this time. This was our first time to Mansfield. It is a smaller ski park, nothing like Horseshoe Valley. There were various trails you could take, for various skill levels. We started with the most basic course. The snow was wet and slow. Which was both good and bad. On the beginner trail all the nOObs had mangled the tracks so our skis were sliding all over in the loose snow. Gah... So after some prompting from B. we ventured onto an Intermediate course. It was actually a lot better. The tracks were in better shape and there weren't kids flailing ski poles on this trail. Since the snow was so slow the downhill segments were tolerable. I don't think I'd want to go too much faster on those skis. I fell a few time on the Intermediate... mostly just bailing on the downhills, being unfamiliar with 1926...

1923 : Hockey night in Canada!

Well Canada showed up tonight in Men's hockey in spades! Holy! What a game. I was expecting a one goal win, not a 7-3 shellacking! Impressive win that was a loooooong time coming against Russia! GO Canada! Sweden or Slovakia next. After the U.S. game they showed a lot of character tonight.

Women's bobsled medals! Gold and silver! :D 1923...

1922 : Hot tubs and Horrible Hockey

What a day! B. and I ventured up to Collingwood for a day at 'http://www.scandinave.com/enluemountain/'La Scandinave. The what? It is a day spa, hot tubs, dry sauna, steam sauna... a place to go and relax. For the most part it was. In spite of there being 'quiet' signs *everywhere* some people still talk and ruin the tranquil atmosphere. Idiots... Regardless, it was a fun day with B., the weather cooperated as well. I had my first massage by a 'guy' today. It was a little odd. I'm sure he read the disappointment when he said 'Dave?'. And my eyes rolled. I noticed the strength difference immediately. Good lord, I thought he was going to break my skin and grab my heart at times. I feel pretty 'worked over' now. In the lounge we grabbed a little lunch. Adoring the walls in the lounge was art by Jennifer Woodburn. She has some stunning pieces. We were very tempted by "http://jenniferwoodburn.com/#goto=available-works&viewimage=12"Been Aro 1922...

1921 : Cross Fracking Country Skiing

In the summer we bought some cross country ski equipment. Monday we finally got a chance to use it. I've gone down-hilling a few times. I've enjoyed downhill. I've also gone cross country, and the last time I went I hated it. So... I was pretty unsure how cross country skiing would go for me. Well. It could have been better. It was both frustrating and infuriating but I could see the potential. First off, an inexperienced xcc'er such as myself has no business on an ungroomed winding 'trail' that loops up and down and up and down. It was fool hearty and a clear path to fail. That said... if the course is flat and straight, I could see some potential for enjoyment, and it is great exercise. I must have used muscles that have been dormant for years, I still ache this morning. I did lose it a few times though, I find it very different than downhill, and my downhill brain is not working well my xcc brain which leads to falling and frustration. I know my limits though. I'll try it again, onl 1921...

1920 : Shit Luck

Kev and Suz came over last night for the evening. It was a great visit. We haven't seen them for some time. We did a lot of talking and hanging out, it was a relaxing evening. Today we ventured north to find snow for snowshoeing. After gorging on bacon for breakfast we set off. The first stop was at the outdoors store we love in Barrie called Sojourn. After shopping we ended up in Copland Forest to go snowshoeing. Kev trail blazed us bushwhacking through the bush. It was a great walk. My legs feel pretty heavy now though... Good times. We planned to do more in the spring.

Zappy (now a.k.a. Crappy) has always liked elastics and strings and things that cats really shouldn't because they can be deadly. We'll she used up a life tonight. She suddenly plopped down beside us and dragged her butt on the carpet. I've never seen a cat do that. Needless to say there was a big matted mess there and an elastic. Sigh... Damn cats. I was surprised she was so cooperative during her clean 1920...

1919 : GO CANADA!

Huh, didn't blog all week. I'm such a slacker. There isn't much going on during the work week other than the work routine anyway. I caught some sorta bug on Thursday and stayed home Friday. I was feeling fairly awful. No way I could concentrate well enough to work feeling all achy and with a massive headache. Bah. I feel better today but I'm coughing a bit still and my throat still feels like coarse sandpaper has been rubbed down it when I cough.

It was a tragic start to the Olympics to hear about the Georgian Luger who died. Very sad.

The opening games were pretty neat. I always feel they drag on waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. I think Yanofsky did an awful job with our national anthem. I don't know who's idea it was to let her do the jazzy or whatever version but gawd... you should be charged with treason. Our national anthem should not be used as an opportunity to showcase a singer's unique singing style. I *expect* to hear it a certain way. It is not to be int 1919...
